What does HPS stand for?HPS is the company’s original acronym from over 60 years ago.The membership has evolved from solely hospitals to include senior living facilities, surgery centers, physician offices, education, senior meals, and camps. Today, HPS is an organization that stands behind our programs offered to our members and our reputation precedes us.
Who owns HPS?HPS is owned by our non-profit members.
Who does the decision making?The Board of Managers consists of health care administrators and school superintendents. This group of decision makers are responsible for the budgets set forth and fiscal decisions of HPS.
How does HPS make money?The majority of HPS operating revenue is derived from annual membership dues paid by our members. Additional sources of revenue are received through the Furniture, Finishes and Equipment program and investments.
What areas/states do you serve?HPS has local representation, Region Managers, to service our members in the following states:
Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, and FloridaWith that said, many of our members have owned/affiliated sites in other states. Therefore, HPS is able to service these members through our Member Resource Representative team via telesales and support.
How many members does HPS have?HPS has nearly 3,000 member facilities throughout the Midwest and Southern states.
What associations do you support/what conferences & trade shows do you attend?HPS is either an industry member or exhibitor with many associations across all classes of trade, both at the state level and national level. The list of associations/conferences/trade shows that we support is continually changing and growing. On our website there is a calendar of events that has the upcoming conferences that HPS is involved in. Who is MedAssets and why are you an affiliate of them, what does this mean?MedAssets is a national GPO employing a multi-vendor contracting strategy and also a pre-commitment program for a comprehensive contracting solution which helps customers reduce total supply expense in their major spend areas. MedAssets also has a wide variety of data and revenue enforcement products available. In 2003, HPS affiliated with MedAssets in order for HPS members to have access to the MedAssets contract portfolio. HPS health care members utilize this affiliation more than other classes of trade. The benefits members achieve are obtained from their programs such as pharmacy, medical surgical, laboratory, and capital equipment. Currently, over 90 percent of the nations’ hospitals access some service or product from MedAssets.

What does membership cost?HPS is supported by annual membership dues paid by each member which averages $1,000 per year. Membership dues are based on participation in the program – the average return on investment is 5:1.
How am I serviced as a member?As a member you are assigned a Region Manager and/or a Member Resource Representative depending on your type of facility, your geographic location and your specific customer service needs. HPS Member Development team’s goal is to achieve 100 percent of members contacted each year. Therefore, each member will receive an Annual Business Review whether it is a personal visit or scheduled phone conference.

HPS Program Offerings
Who makes HPS contracting decisions?HPS is member operated, which means our six advisory committees guide HPS’ contracting decisions. These committees meet quarterly to discuss the HPS contract portfolio they are responsible for and make decisions on RFP’s to extend or send out, evaluate those in process, and decide on contract awards. HPS also has representation on a variety of MedAssets committees, providing input to our national partner.
How do I become a vendor?On the HPS website there is a vendor application. Each vendor must submit an application which is then reviewed by the responsible committee.
Is there minimum participation in any program?HPS is a voluntary program. A facility can join to participate in one contract or many contracts. There are contracts that offer incentives/pricing tiers for commitment.
Do you have an equipment catalog?Yes, HPS has an equipment catalog and also a search mechanism on our website. Both of these sources have a sampling of the types of equipment HPS has to offer. Please contact the HPS office and ask to speak to a customer service representative to discuss your specific equipment needs. Our customer service representatives will assist you in developing specifications and provide you with a price quote on the equipment.
How do you ensure I am getting the right price?If the vendor is reporting the purchase volume to HPS, then this confirms the vendor recognizes your facility is linked to the HPS contract. In order verify if your facility is receiving the correct price, you would need to send invoices from the vendor to the HPS office, attention Member Resource Department or email the invoices to
